Theakston’s Black Bull Brewery on College Lane, Masham was the start of a beautiful friendship between the market town & the passion for real ale. The story began with Robert Theakston, a North Yorkshire farmer from the hamlet of Warthermarske. In 1827, Robert established a brewery at The Black Bull Inn on College Lane, with the Black Bull pub on Silver Street (now the Corks & Cases wine merchant). Later, the family bought orchard land at ‘Paradise Fields’ on the west side of the town centre, and Robert’s sons, Thomas & Robert, relocated there in 1875. Years later, in 1990, the original brewery building on College Lane was converted into 4 individual properties, one of which we are now excited to lovingly know as 1, Cardinal Court, “The Yorkshire Brew”
